…is being a cyclist…
and simply being out on your bike, riding properly, within the law and on the road as part of the traffic.
The way every individual cyclist rides sets the tone for what other road users and pedestrians think – every cyclist is an ambasador for all cyclists.
Although there are many channels where this happens, the main ones that form part of Cycling Solutions activity are:
- Merseyside Cycling Campaign
The MCC is the local body that makes sure the interests of cyclists are given a clear and consistent voice on Merseyside and its members get involved in everything from cleaning up local cycle routes and providing specially designed maps to local cycle-friendly routes, all the way to influencing local traffic planning. Both Colin Langdon and Neil Kay have been involved in running the MCC in the past and continue to be supporting members. You can read more about the MCC here. - The Integrated Transport Forum
Most regions have their own version of the ITF, a consultative body for the Local Transport Plan. It’s populated by representatives from local transport operators, local council, highways agencies and other government and business departments, as well as representation from local interest groups. Colin Langdon is a regular attender at local ITF meetings. - Cyclists Defence Fund
This organisation was set up by the CTC in 2001 in response to a high profile case in which an insurance company effectively attempted to sue a 9-yr-old cyclist (via his parents) who suffered brain damage when he was hit by a motorist.
Colin Langdon also sits on the CDF board and their role is to provide support to cyclists who are involved in legal action in cases where the outcome might damage or hinder the rights of cyclists. You can find out more at their website here.
We can offer advice and help on tour routes and local rides, holidays and even places to stay and to eat – just get in touch and we’ll help where we can and point you in the right direction.
